Tips To Avoid Diaper or Nappy Rash in a Baby

It takes just a few moments after the baby is born, that a new mother thinks impatiently whether the child she has carried for nine months in her womb has got an only task to wet themselves again and again. Several times in a day does the baby wet themselves to such an extent that they have to be lifted and dressed up again for the task. In these kind of scenarios, the diapers or nappies or huggies have become a boon to the moms. But, what is the right procedure to use the diapers? How are they supposed to be selected to suit the baby? Is it advised not to use the diapers for longer terms? Well, these are a bunch of questions that every parent tend to has at these times. Hope I can give a suitable solution to this problem with my answers which I have learnt through reading and collecting the information from, where else, the world wide web itself.

There are some ads in the televisions which claim that a baby grows to their maximum extent at the time of their sleep itself. How true is that? So, if at all they are meant to sleep that long, then the ad specifies that the child has to be wrapped in a diaper so that they do not get disturbed in their sleep and wake up in the middle of it. Ok, we can take that advise.

But, how efficient is a diaper wrapped around the baby’s tender waist for hours and hours at a stretch? Well, this question does creep into every parent’s mind.  Generally, in remote areas around, the child is wrapped in the tender old cotton clothes which have been laid aside for years and years altogether. These clothes wither in the hands of time and become so soft that they do not cause any problem to the child when he is gently wrapped in them.

But, now we have these so called ready made diapers which are used and thrown away. There are some points which are to be taken into consideration here and the following paras would depict how you should use these diapers!

Pros and Cons

There exists two kinds of diapers in general. Disposable and Re-usable.

Moms who have work pressure bound around themselves can use disposable kind of diapers. There is no hassle to change these. They do stretch to fit the baby’s waist. Those are the advantages, but, the disposable kind of diapers too have their own group of disadvantages. If the parent is unable to find out that their baby has pooped, then there is a feasibility that it gets clung in the same manner to the baby for hours together.

The cost is more than the re-usable diapers. And a baby who gets habituated for these kind of diapers do not tend to learn how to use the potty quickly. That is, they can not adapt to the potty thing very well and it takes considerable amount of time to let go of the diaper feel for the baby. A baby’s gentle skin can not bear the rash they cause by being in touch with their skin for hours together. And, they are not good for the environment too.

The reusable diapers are generally made with gentle cotton material(Muslin Fabric) which has got pores in it and which enable air to flow in and around the baby’s genitalia causing a relaxed feeling for the baby. So, there is no chance of getting rashes. Cost efficient, but the only hassle is, you need to wash it again and again based on the pooping capacity of the baby(Love these cutie pies for competing against themselves in pooping). And yeah, there is no harm to the environment. No, not the poop, I am talking about the diapers.

So, Which to Use?

We would not name the diaper companies here and misdirect you. We will keep it as general as possible. When you consider using the diapers, you can use the above mentioned both kinds, based on the situation. In the day time, and when you both are at home, it’s advisable to use the re-usable kind of diapers as the baby feels the pleasure of them very well. In the nights or when you are traveling, it’s advisable to use the disposable kind. Do not consider that you are always busy and cling the disposable diaper to the baby for longer periods. Nothing is more important than a baby who can not take care of his poop by himself, isn’t it? If you do so, then bearing with the rashes for the poor babies is not an easy task. And, the more you use the diapers, the more time they take to understand that they need to inform you about the potty issue. The general tendency for a baby is that they do not wish to wear the diaper once they cross the age of two, so, by that time they need to be informed slowly over how to use the potty and make good use of it.

What if they get a Nappy Rash?

The cute bums of a baby become cherry red once they get the rashes, but, there is nothing to get worried. It happens if a wet diaper clings to the baby for longer time periods. When the baby is getting the teeth, there are certain acidic properties in the urine which are the main cause for the rashes. Take care to keep those bums clean and dry at all times. If they develop rashes, consult a doctor and ask for an ointment or powder to reduce it. Diaper rashes do not decrease in a day. You need to be patient and caring until it subsides. After changing the diaper every time, you need to clean the child, wipe them dry with a soft towel and then make them wear a diaper. It’s advisable to apply coconut oil periodically on the areas where the rashes are formed. This prevents the rash to burn and cause discomfort to the baby.

Lastly, one important thing, there exist different kind of diapers for a baby boy and baby girl. So, take care and choose the right ones to prevent the later woes.
